PH now ranks 77th in mobile internet, 65th in fixed broadband for May 2021: Ookla

According to Ookla's May 2021 Global Speedtest Index, the country's internet connectivity improves significantly in mobile and fixed broadband download speeds. The Philippines moved up seven positions in the global ranking for mobile download speeds and a whopping fifteen places for fixed download speeds.

The Philippines now ranks 77th globally for the Mobile category, recording an average download speed of 31.98 Mbps. The mobile upload speed was recorded at 8.74 Mbps, while 30 ms is the average record for the latency. That's a massive increase compared to the April ranking of 84th that listed an average download of 29.12 Mbps, upload of 7.65 Mbps, and latency of 33ms.

The country is placed at 65th, registering an average download of 58.73 Mbps for the Fixed Broadband category. The upload speed and latency were posted at 57.40 Mbps and 21 ms, respectively. It's a notable improvement from the 80th position of April charts with 49.31 Mbps download, 47.83 Mbps upload, and 22ms latency.

The country that topped the mobile internet ranking is the United Arab Emirates, having an average speed of 194.04 Mbps. For fixed broadband, Singapore ranked first with an average of 250.35 Mbps.

The Speedtest Global Index for May 2021 includes 137 countries for mobile and 180 countries for fixed broadband.

Ookla's speed test platform compares data on internet speed globally, based on millions of tests conducted monthly using the Speedtest.

Additionally, it considers at least 300 unique user results for mobile or fixed broadband, leveraging an extensive testing infrastructure with over 10,000 servers in over 190 countries.
